Stakeholder engagement is a fundamental part of the Northern Water project.

Northern Water undertook extensive stakeholder engagement during the business case phase. The team will continue to engage with stakeholders and the wider community as part of the planning and assessment phase to help identify potential issues, concerns, impacts, opportunities, and management measures to reduce risk and enhance local community benefits.

We are committed to:

  • delivering early and ongoing engagement that is open and transparent
  • providing opportunities for stakeholder influence throughout all stages of the project
  • working with stakeholders and community representatives to ensure that concerns and aspirations are understood and addressed
  • identifying and understanding relevant knowledge gaps and solutions
  • making reports and studies available for public review in a timely manner
  • communicating how stakeholders and community input influenced the outcome
  • providing engagement opportunities both face to face and online.

Northern Water is committed to designing and delivering effective engagement which provides a variety of opportunities for the community to influence outcomes throughout all stages of the project. The diagram below outlines the project and engagement stages and highlights that we are currently in the early stages of the environmental and social assessment. There are a number of engagement opportunities planned to align to the community conversation topics outlined below. If you have any feedback or suggestions about what we are planning to investigate and the ways we could do this, we encourage you to contact the team.
